Vibrant Urban Centers

Developing and maintaining vibrant urban environments is one of the cornerstones of Oregon’s statewide planning program and is a key part of Rogue Advocates’ mission. We support local governments in their efforts to increase housing density within urban growth boundaries while facilitating safe and convenient access to commercial destinations by foot, bike or transit. Cities with vibrant urban environments put a priority on people, not parking.

Rogue Advocates monitors development proposals in the Rogue Valley to ensure consistency with Oregon’s long-held planning goals while promoting compact urban development. Such efforts are key to promoting housing affordability and vibrant communities while reducing our dependence on the automobile and the associated impacts of resource-gobbling sprawl.
